education and experience
Graduated from Western New Mexico University with my Masters in Social work. I currently hold an LSMW (Licensed Master Social Worker) with and additional certification in Rural Community Social Work Services.
I currently am a Licensed Master Social Worker who provides counseling to primarily children and families. I specialize in working with children with severe behavioral dysregulation and help them learn self regulation skills. This helps them communicate their emotional needs better. I use play therapy, art therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques. I additionally provide counseling for parenting, co- parenting, and reunification.
I have several years of experience working with children and families. I have previous working with children with severe behavioral health needs in the schools and in their home. Additionally I would provide psycho-education to parents and extended family to assist them with achieving their family goals. I have also worked with children in CYFD custody and in higher level of care placements, such as treatment foster care or residential treatment centers. I then worked as a case manager to help individuals obtain various services in order to help their physical and emotional well-being.
why i am a counselor
I am a counselor because I am passionate about helping those around me. Throughout my own experiences I have always had a vision of being the person who I needed when I was younger. Within life it can be overwhelming to figure out how and why we feel and act certain ways. I love being able to show individuals how they can grow and working through the areas they feel is holding them back.
