education and experience
I earned my Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Psychology at the University of New Mexico in 2019. I am nearing completion of my Master’s degree in social work at New Mexico Highlands University. I began in the field of social work as a residential counselor for children facing mental illness and behavioral issues. During my time in my Master’s program, I worked as a substance use peer support worker which enhanced my knowledge about addiction. I aim to further my credentials to enhance my knowledge in all aspects of social work and counseling.
why i am a counselor
Substance abuse was a common issue where I was growing up. My focus is helping individuals obtain sobriety and maintain a clean and sober way of living.
After obtaining my degree in social work, I am aiming to receive my certificate in Dream Analysis Therapy. I am open to see individuals facing trauma, substance use, mental illness, and grief/loss. I did not think I wanted to work with children but targeting youth to prevent early substance use is a goal I intend to meet. I am still new to the field, but I am determined to gain all the experience necessary to one day make a positive difference in my community.
